My Take: The Call to Be a Disciple and Disciple-Maker

"There is no such thing as a disciple of Christ who is not making other disciples of Christ. Disciples make disciples." — JT English, Deep Discipleship

Is it just the season of life, or is it the pace of our world that makes life feel so full, so quickly?

Whether you're juggling many responsibilities or just a few, busyness seems to be the universal language. We nod in recognition—too busy for the weeknight Bible study, too busy to read a book, too busy to even meet for coffee. We have little ones in tow, kids to shuttle to activities, aging parents to care for.

Then, we come to the topic of discipleship and realize that as believers, we’re not only called to be faithful, persevering disciples—we’re called to make disciples. And for many of us, that truth sparks a sense of panic. One more thing I should be doing? I barely have time for myself.

But discipleship isn’t just another task to squeeze into our schedules—it’s our primary calling. Before all the other roles and responsibilities, we are called to pass along the gospel in our everyday relationships. Yes, it’s a weighty responsibility, but it’s also a source of blessing. Our tendency is to focus inward, but discipleship calls us outward—to share our lives and what we’re learning with those around us.

Rather than feeling pressured to add something new, we can simply pay attention to

the relationships already in our lives—our children, our families, our friends, our local church. How can we intentionally pour into them, passing along truth and encouragement? That’s the heart of making disciples.
