It’s cold, it’s crazy, and it’s full—but life is also so much fun right now.
Christmas concerts, work parties, and our mission's Christmas event in Toronto brought great encouragement last weekend. We’re diving into club volleyball season, gearing up for more hockey, and looking forward to the upcoming holiday break—it’s going to be wonderful!
While reading Caroline Cobb’s Advent for Exiles, I’ve been reflecting on this time of Advent, this season of preparation. Like many of you, I’m stocking my freezer with pie crusts, checking off my gift list, and getting ready for what’s to come.
But as John the Baptist prepared the way for Christ, his message wasn’t about organizing our to-do lists or perfecting our plans. It was about preparing our hearts. His call was one of repentance—a turning away from the things that keep us from Christ, confessing where we’ve lived apart from Him, and renewing our hearts to surrender to His truth.
As I look back on a year of God’s faithfulness, I’m also confronted by the areas where I’ve fallen short, where obedience gave way to complacency. This season reminds me to repent, to align my heart with His will, and to respond to the voice crying out in the wilderness: Prepare the way for the Lord; make straight paths for Him.
Advent is a season of anticipation, but it’s also a time for repentance—a chance to realign our hearts with God’s will. As we prepare to celebrate Christ’s coming, let’s not just prepare our homes and schedules but also examine the places in our hearts that need His transforming grace. Repentance clears the path for us to fully embrace the hope and joy of His arrival.
What is one specific way you sense God calling you to turn from distraction or disobedience and make room for Him in your heart this Advent season?
Grace & Peace,
Amber

The Finish Comes Fast, Counsel for Running the Race | Tim Keesee (Desiring God)

You Will Always Have Time to Do the Things God Wants You To Do | Ana Ávila (Crossway)
I found this short video so encouraging. There's a perspective shift when we consider our limitations and the time God has given us to live faithfully in obedience to him. I'm working on my yearly review and praying through goals for the next year, so this was timely.
Unexpected Grace: The Christmas Story You Never Knew | Ashley Anthony (GCD)
"The book of Ruth may not be the first place you’d look for a Christmas story. Yet, Naomi’s story of loss, pain, and restoration offers hope to our weary hearts this season—all through the birth of a baby boy."
Charlie Brown Christmas Tree | Sarah Elizabeth Green
When the imperfect finds sufficiency in Christ. Charlie Brown's tree is a helpful image as we sort through our expectations and surrender them to the Lord.
Now's the Time to Consider New Year's Resolution | Tim Challies
As I'm working through my goal setting, this was also a timely encouragement to consider areas of weakness and biblical instructions to add some meat to the bones of my goals.
