Happy Friday!
The snow outside is thick, and the blankets inside are even thicker. Winter has definitely arrived, though I'm still wrapping my mind around its reality.
With winter comes the buzz of events, parties, and gatherings. This weekend, we’re off to Toronto for a Christmas celebration hosted by our mission (with some board meetings tucked in for good measure). The to-do list seems to grow longer each day as we prepare.
Does Advent feel the same way for you?
This season invites us to reflect on the adventus—Jesus’ first coming—and to prepare our hearts for His promised return. But in the busyness, do we focus more on our growing checklist than on the beauty of waiting and worship?
Isaiah 9:6 reminds us why we celebrate:"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
As we work through our lists, let’s also make space to savor the wonder of this gift. May this weekend be one of worshipful anticipation as we prepare not just our homes but our hearts for Him.
Wishing you joy and peace this Advent season!
Grace & Peace,
Amber

Advent reminds us that while we live in a broken world, we are not without hope. In Advent for Exiles, Caroline Cobb draws from Scripture to show how God meets us in our waiting, walking with us as we long for the fulfillment of His promises. Exile isn’t just a season of despair—it’s also a season to lift our gaze to the Light who has come and will come again.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”— John 1:5
Where in your life do you feel the ache of exile? How can you look to Christ, the Light of the World, to guide you through it?
Take a moment to lament the brokenness around you, but don’t stop there. Ask God to help you see His light shining in the midst of the darkness. Write down one way you can share His hope with someone this week.

You Already Work a Christian Job | William Bookestein (TGC)
"In Scripture, “calling” almost always refers to God’s call of his people to faith, the Spirit’s working of that faith, or the active life of faith. So in one sense, what we call a vocation is just a part—though a large part—of our general calling to live honorably before God. Our master vocation is to love the Lord supremely and our neighbors as ourselves."
